Joint Institute of Translational Medicine

The Joint Institute of Translational Medicine was established by PolyU and the Banan District of Chongqing Municipal Government in April 2016. It aims to advance, in a collaborative manner, translational medicine researches in China through the effective transfer of research outputs into treatments for diseases. Taking advantages of the clinical and research strengths from both parties, the Institute will focus on projects such as anti-cancer drugs, medical imaging and genetic diagnosis and thus to develop related medication and diagnostic devices. It not only deepens international collaboration and industry partnerships in translational medicine, but is also expected to accelerate the offering of cost-effective medical solutions to patients.

Respiratory Virus Research Foundation

Jointly established by PolyU and The University of Hong Kong in November 2015, the Respiratory Virus Research Foundation is to lead respiratory viral infection research and their corresponding translational research in Hong Kong. With the support of various donors, the teams from the two universities will collaborate actively with the industry to develop technologies and translate the results into clinically applicable products - products that will help the clinical management of patients with acute respiratory viral infections; from diagnostics, vaccines, vaccine adjuvants, to treatment. It is hoped that this collaboration will help to provide greater protection to the community in Hong Kong and beyond.

PolyU Joins Forces with Southwest Jiaotong University to Establish The Joint Innovation Center for Rail Transit Safety Monitoring Technology PolyU and Southwest Jiaotong University take a step forward in strategic partnership to advance the nation's rail transit technologies by setting up the Joint Innovation Center for Rail Transit Safety Monitoring Technology 27 October 2017. PolyU and SWJTU have worked together on various large projects including the Beijing Shanghai HSR (High-speed Railway) and the Lanzhou-Xinjiang HSR project in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Both parties will further leverage their expertise to strengthen the collaboration on research development through the Joint Innovation Center for the enhancement of rail safety to meet the nation's robust demand in rail transit development, providing active support for the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area development plan. PolyU and SZU Spearhead the Launch of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Rail Transit Joint Innovation Union In 2018, PolyU and Shenzhen University (SZU) spearhead the establishment of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Rail Transit Joint Innovation Union” with 10 other universities and enterprises. The 12 participating parties signed a MoU in the ceremony held in Shenzhen, signifying the kick-off of the collaborative advancement in the research and development of rail engineering. The Union aims to build an integrated rail transit system within “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay” (The Greater Bay) by combining the research strengths of the collaborating parties. The Union will seek research and technological breakthroughs to cater to the tremendous needs of safe operations and maintenance of the rail transit in The Greater Bay. The research efforts will focus on smart sensing and health monitoring of rail infrastructure, safety alert mechanism, disaster resilience program, crisis contingency, and recovery plan etc., to promote safe operation and maintenance of rail transit system.
